Deep Dive: How are RFQ-based DEXes impacting blockchain?

The world of decentralized exchanges (DEXes) is evolving.

While automated market makers (AMMs) and liquidity pools have dominated, a new model is stepping up - RFQ

With RFQ, users can trade directly with market makers for better prices.

Let's dive in:

What is RFQ?

RFQ = Request For Quote

RFQ allows traders to send in a request and receive price quotes from market makers.

You can either trade over-the-counter (directly) or through an exchange facilitating the RFQ process.

So, what's so special about it?

Traders get tailored rates without unpredictable slippage or hidden fees.

On regular DEXes, algorithmic smart contracts source liquidity from pools where prices change.

With RFQ, human market makers compete to offer the best fixed prices. This gives price protection and shields against manipulation risks inherent to public pools.

Moreover, RFQ exchanges include network fees in the quoted rate so there are no surprise gas charges.

How to trade on RFQs?

The RFQ process is straightforward:

  1. Send in your request with the trade details

  2. Market makers submit their quotes

  3. Select the quote you wish to go with

  4. The exchange settles the trade via a smart contract

Platforms like Hashflow, Bebop, and DLN are making RFQ model a reality.

Hashflow offers lightning-quick trades across leading blockchains. Bebop aggregates liquidity from multiple market makers for the best rates and DLN enables cross-chain trading using RFQ

To sum it up...

RFQ simplifies DEX trading with transparent pricing, market maker competition and robust protection against price swings.

As RFQ sees greater adoption, DeFi will open up for mainstream traders seeking predictable pricing.

A huge shoutout to our dev Rahul for this research.
